LOCUS: CREATIVE PLACEMAKING TOOLBOX

How to do your interventions

INTRODUCTION.
CREATIVE PLACEMAKING TOOLBOX

Toolbox is intended for all organizations and associations working in the field of youth activism, non-formal education and cultural heritage, as well as for professionals who work with young people. It consists of work materials, manuals and examples useful for your place-making activities, divided in five “place-making steps”.

STEP 1.
WITH WHOM

Stakeholder mapping and analysis

After the placemaking project is defined, you have to ask yourself – who is going to work on it? In this step you need to map and involve your stakeholders – they are people, organizations, institutions and others who can help you with your process.

STEP 2.
WHERE & WHY

Space evaluation & current situation

Goal of this exercise is to start differentiating between aspects of your focus space so as to decide which one to focus on. You’ll work on focusing, grouping/thematising, identifying places and its opportunities, as well as object-based learning.

STEP 3.
WHAT COULD BE

Visioning desired change & Design

Envision a change in the place. Imagine the best possible experience you could create with the resources you have: What would be a good and feasible improvement for all the stakeholders involved in the place we have chosen to alter?

STEP 4.
CHANGE

Short term and/or long term spatial Interventions

Focusing on cultural activities such as public art displays, outdoor concerts and movies and installations with art themes, you can have short or long term interventions – depending on various specifics of your project.

STEP 5.
CELEBRATION

A moment to celebrate!

A process following the philosophy of placemaking emphasizes the importance of celebration; it’s the first opportunity to mark the closure of the project and acknowledge the community efforts and add to sense of ownership and belonging.
